The company was founded in 1946 as a manufacturer of accurately machined parts using naturally occurring Agate stone, mainly as pivots for precision chemical balances. The early introduction of synthetic Sapphire for this particular application was a turning point in the fortunes of our company. The ensuing growth in new products using this material became the mainstay of the company for many years - commencing with the manufacture of Sapphire Tape Guides for the fledgling computer industry followed by that of Sapphire Windows for numerous and diverse applications.
